What Are the Physical Properties of PTFE?

PTFE is also generally referred to as non-stick coating or easy-to-clean material. This material is almost insoluble in all solvents. At the same time, PTFE, which is resistant to high temperatures and has a very low coefficient of friction, is an ideal coating for easy cleaning of the inner layer of water pipes. Coatings generally mainly include pipe thread dope, propane pipe dope, teflon pipe dope and water pipe dope.

The PTFE membrane material is made of ultra-fine glass fiber fabric coated with polytetrafluoroethylene resin. This kind of membrane material has good welding performance, excellent anti-ultraviolet, anti-aging performance and flame retardant performance.

PTFE is widely used in aviation, nutrition and food, medicine and broadcasting and communication fields.

Physical Properties of PTFE

The mechanical properties of PTFE are relatively soft. PTFE has a very low surface energy.

PTFE has a series of excellent performance,

High temperature resistance. The long-term use temperature of PTFE products is 200 to 260 degrees.

Low temperature resistance. PTFE is still soft at -100 degrees.

Preservative. PTFE is resistant to aqua regia and all organic solvents.

Weather resistant. PTFE has the best aging life among plastics.

High lubrication. PTFE has the smallest coefficient of friction (0.04) among plastics.

Not sticky. PTFE has the smallest surface tension among solid materials without adhering anything.

Non-toxic. PTFE is physiologically inert.

PTFE also has excellent electrical properties and is an ideal C-level insulating material. High-quality PTFE materials are widely used in important sectors such as national defense and military industry, nuclear energy, petroleum, radio, electrical machinery, and chemical industry.

Related products are mainly as follows: PTFE rod, PTFE pipe material, PTFE sheet, skived PTFE sheet.

Polytetrafluoroethylene is a polymer of tetrafluoroethylene. The relative molecular mass of polytetrafluoroethylene is relatively large, the low is hundreds of thousands, the high is more than tens of millions, and the general performance is millions (the degree of polymerization is on the order of 104, while that of polyethylene is only 103). Generally, the crystallinity is 90~95%, and the melting temperature is 327~342"C.

The CF2 units in the PTFE molecule are arranged in a zigzag shape. Since the radius of the fluorine atom is slightly larger than that of hydrogen, the adjacent CF2 units cannot be completely cross-oriented in trans, but form a helical twisted chain. The fluorine atoms almost cover the entire surface of the polymer chain. This molecular structure explains the various properties of polytetrafluoroethylene. When the temperature is lower than 19°C, a 13/6 spiral is formed. A phase change occurs at 19°C, and the molecules unravel slightly, forming a 15/7 helix.

Mechanical Properties

Its friction coefficient is extremely small, only 1/5 of polyethylene, which is an important feature of perfluorocarbon surface. In addition, because the fluorine-carbon chain intermolecular forces are extremely low, PTFE is non-sticky.

Electrical Properties

PTFE has low dielectric constant and dielectric loss in a wide frequency range. PTFE has high breakdown voltage, volume resistivity and arc resistance.

Radiation Resistance

The radiation resistance of PTFE is poor. After being exposed to high-energy radiation, it causes degradation, and the electrical and mechanical properties of the polymer are significantly reduced.

The biggest advantage of PTFE is its versatility, which allows it to be used in different industries and different products. These products mainly include PTFE teflon cord, teflon tape for gas and pipe dope for gas, etc.
