What are the PTFE, FEP and the PFA?

Many things we use in our daily life are inseparable from fluoroplastics, like plumbing ptfe tape. There are many types of fluoroplastics, the most common of which are PTFE, FEP and PFA. Different types of fluoroplastics have different characteristics. Only by knowing the knowledge of different types of fluoroplastics can we choose the most suitable one.

What is fluoroplastics?

Fluoroplastics are paraffin polymers with some or all hydrogen substituted by fluorine. They include polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) like blue ptfe tape, perfluoro (ethylene propylene) (FEP) copolymer, perfluoroalkoxy (PFA) resin, polychlorotrifluoroethylene (PCTFE), ethylene-trifluoroethylene copolymer (ECTFE), ethylene-tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE) copolymer and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF)

Fluoroplastic plumber seal tapes have flame retardancy and excellent heat resistance. If it is used at high temperature for a long time, it will cause crystallinity change, so special attention should be paid when manufacturing equipment lining. Fluoroplastic pipe thread sealing tapes have chemical resistance and solvent resistance, and they are not corroded by acid, alkali and solvent, but molten alkali metal, fluorine and CFC have different influences on them. The electrical properties of fluoroplastics, especially high-frequency electrical properties, are unmatched by other materials, among which PVDF has special piezoelectric and pyroelectric properties. Fluoroplastic pipe sealing compounds are non-sticky, because the fluorine content in molecules of this material is very high, and the surface contact angle is very large, which makes the liquid on the surface of fluoroplastic products spherical and difficult to bond with resin, so it is often used to make non-sticky layer on the surface of cookware.

Advantages of PTFE

In known plastics, PTFE has the best chemical corrosion resistance and dielectric properties, and Ptfe Thread Seal Tape has a very high cost performance. It can work at 260℃. Even though it is often mixed with other chemicals, PTFE has good resistance and will not react with these chemicals. Most of PTFE is translucent and will not adhere to any substances. 100% Ptfe Thread Seal Tape can't melt easily, so it is difficult to process it, which requires professional technology. The performance of PTFE makes this material the best choice for electrical insulation and electronic component protection.

Advantages of FEP

FEP is a copolymer of tetrafluoroethylene and hexafluoropropylene. The melting point of FEP crystal is 304℃, and the density is 2.15g/CC. FEP plumbers tape on plastic threads can be applied to soft plastics, and its tensile strength, wear resistance and creep resistance are lower than those of many engineering plastics. It is chemically inert and has a low dielectric constant in a wide range of temperature and frequency. The working temperature of this material is 200℃, lower than that of PTFE, so it is easier to be processed, welded or reshaped. FEP plumbers thread seal tape has a very clear color and can resist chemicals and ultraviolet rays. FEP can shrink some temperature-sensitive materials, so it can be used to package sensitive electronic instruments.

Advantages of PFA

This kind of material can be processed into products by thermoplastic processing method, and it has poor fluidity and is easy to decompose. PFA has clear color and good permeability resistance. The disadvantage of PFA best thread tape is that it is more expensive. PFA is suitable for manufacturing corrosion-resistant parts, wear-resistant parts, seals, insulators and medical equipment parts, high-temperature wires and cable insulation layers, anti-corrosion equipment, sealing materials, pump and valve bushings and chemical containers.
